I continue to come from a place of integrity, and heart, and remind myself that it’s okay to fall down. I create…..I celebrate…..I love.

Recorded my first studio album, “chillin’ & fillin’”, which will have five songs including two originals. The band on this album consists of Bruce Petherick on Piano, Stefano Valdo on Bass, Jon May on Drums and featured guest from Nashville, Oscar Utterström on Trombone.  This is of a smoother jazz feel with a spread of funk? It’s been an organic collaboration, with a few tears shed of course, but it represents new beginnings for me and I say “Bring It!”  This EP will only be released in digital format, around the beginning of Feb 2013.

Have begun to start work on an ep.  What’s an ep? An extended play (or EP) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP. (Thanks Wiki) This will be in digital format and will have 5-6 songs including my newest original!

]]> http://deannematley.com/say-do-you-remember/feed/ 0 June is Busting Out All Over http://deannematley.com/june-is-busting-out-all-over/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=june-is-busting-out-all-over http://deannematley.com/june-is-busting-out-all-over/#comments Sat, 14 Jul 2012 22:17:29 +0000 Deanne http://deannematley.com/?p=3885 Apparently….as I am getting this monthly newsletter out late!  Yes life has gotten in the way lol.  Lots of patience, trust, faith, oh and let us throw some vulnerability in there shall we…Thank goodness for music, great friends, cats, walking, yoga and maybe a little bit of chocolate :)   Ok, time to catch you up…So I was Bar Band of the Month in Swerve Magazine in May, and had a bit of a write-up plus photo in May/June Where Magazine (still on streets).  I have been selected to play at The Bell Centennial Plaza to represent the Jazz Summit at The Calgary Stampede!  Yup, jazz at The Stampede   Wed July 11 from 1-1:45 pm and I will not be wearing an ounce of giddy up :)   If you are however looking for some giddy up, a good pal of mine owns Riley & McCormick Be sure to check out the schedule as there are a ton of other amazing local artists performing there as well!

I am proud to say that I presented my first Deanne Matley Scholarship to The Calgary Arts Academy!  It was a wonderful evening and I got to share the stage with their music teacher Georgie Lyons, a beautiful singer/songwriter.  Calgary Arts Academy is the only school in Canada offering public education through Arts Immersion.  Be a Star – Buy a Star

]]> http://deannematley.com/june-is-busting-out-all-over/feed/ 0 5 Days in May http://deannematley.com/5-days-in-may/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=5-days-in-may http://deannematley.com/5-days-in-may/#comments Fri, 11 May 2012 15:58:46 +0000 Deanne http://deannematley.com/?p=3861 Okay so this month has already brought its’ challenges.  What would life be without the challenges… in which juicy gems are found.  I am learning that I need to work on patience, that, and fear of rejection….  So pulled out my Blue Rodeo album, well played it on my Iphone/Ipod, and remembered why I love them so much.   I don’t connect with the lyrics as much as I do with their music, in fact that’s how I connect to most songs, but there is something about that album that brings me to an euphoric sense of freedom.  It takes me back to very fond memories of my time spent in Saskatchewan, (probably at a barn dance with lots of Lucky Lager flowing tee hee..right? a euphoric sense of freedom)

When I sing a song, I’m connecting to how the music makes me feel and that’s probably why I like singing ballads so much.  Although, there are certain up-tempo tunes that get me excited, and that happens a lot when I get to sing with a big band. I get to sing some great tunes this Saturday with The Prime Time Big Band.  A high note for me about this gig, is my high school choir/jazz choir teacher who really, introduced me to jazz, is playing in the band!!  I am pumped, I have a hard time calling him by his first name, and he told me I was too old and that he was waaay too young for that lol.  He will always be Mr. Gardner to me…but I will try to call him Mike…still weird…

Connected to a great name for my next album, and what context it will hold.  Learned that I don’t like to feel left out.  Realized that my husband is definitely “the writer” in the family.  Came up with a cool new concept for my next “show” (stay tuned for more details.)  Was inspired by another artist around starting her family and how it inspired her to create her latest album.  Seen so many beautiful people grow in their musical journey.  Trusting, Inspiring, Loving, Living, Crying, Laughing…I’ll Remember April, and it isn’t even over yet :)  Why are you remembering April?

“STEALIN’ BLUE” SET TO STEAL HEARTS

Her voice is full of raw emotion with astonishing range and has been described as an inspiring performer. Talented vocalist, Deanne Matley, is now continuing to inspire people with acclaimed pianist Bruce Petherick as she releases her Debut Album “Stealin’ Blue.”

 “This is a dream project come true and it could not have been possible without the support of the wonderful people in the community,” Matley says. “I have such a feeling of immense gratitude to my family, friends, and of course, my fans. It’s truly a musical legacy built by all of us.”

 Matley, a born and raised Calgarian, has performed live for thousands of people.  It is the powerful energy she receives from performing before a live audience that fuels her drive as a musician. Matley invites listeners to join her on her emotional journey of sultry dimensions as she bares her soul for all to see – and hear. Matley transcends passion into a musical jukebox.

 “Stealin’ Blue” is a ballad album containing emotionally charged songs highlighted by the ambience of the live environment.  It was recorded live in Calgary at Cafe Koi in October 2011. Matley’s voice and beautiful stage presence accompanied by Petherick’s brilliant piano skills are set to splash a little flavor into the local jazz and blues scene.

Join Matley, Petherick and friends as they celebrate her debut album at The Cantos Music Foundation. With her steamy vocals, and heartfelt purpose, Matley will be transforming some of her fave tunes from popular artists like Prince, Oasis and Cyndi Lauper as well as select jazz standards and originals.

Through Matley’s passion for giving back to the community, proceeds from the evening will be donated to The National Music Centre and The Deanne Matley Scholarship Fund for The Calgary Arts Academy.

Just over two weeks till recording time!!  Yikes!
